Hosed

Well, I mentioned a few days ago that I really want to get one of those Treo 700p palm phones. Looks like that's going to happen sooner rather than later.

phone.JPGWhen I moved into this house, I decided to go without a home phone line, and for the last five years I've been one of those cell-phone only people. Most of those five years were spent with the same cell phone, as a matter of fact. I got my first Sanyo SCP-4700 in 2000 when I was looking for a job after school. My first didn't last long. Shortly after moving to Kansas City, I took a trip back to Fayetteville, AR and left my phone somewhere in Chester's during a Big Smith show. My second phone was dropped into a fish tank about eight months later.

Still, the current incarnation of my phone has been with me since 2002. It has not looked good for quite some time, but it has always worked very well, with very few drops. Also, I'm rough on my personal electronics, and the phone just feels tough, and has resisted my rough treatment over the years. (You'll notice that just about all the paint has been rubbed off of the face of the phone.) I just don't think that a clamshell phone would last like this Sanyo did.

Well, last thursday this Sayno finally gave up the ghost. On Wednesday I charged it overnight, and on removing it from its charger it only showed a half charge. By Thursday it would immediately give the low battery warning upon being removed from AC power. By Saturday it would no longer turn on at all.

Now here's the dilemma. The new phone I want isn't going to be out until the end of the month. Sprint stores no longer carry the battery for my old phone. I think I can find one online, but it probably won't get here until pretty close to when I can get the new phone. So, it sounds like I'm just going to be going without phone communication for a few weeks here. If anybody needs to reach me, email is your best bet. (Hell, at this point I spend about 85% of my waking hours in front of a computer, so that was really probably always your best bet.)

Goodbye Sanyo Phone. You have served me well. Even when your charger contacts went bad and I had to put a weight on the charger cable to make sure that you could get a charge, I still loved you.

That looks like the exact phone I had until about 3 months ago. Got it in early 2000. It didn't fully die, but it had to be recharged after every call no matter how short. It was an unstoppable wonder.
